Vivotek IP7160 è un network camera high-end da 2 megapixel pensata per spazi ampi ed aperti come ingressi di palazzi e aeroporti, oppure applicazioni che richiedano un'accurata identificazione come volti umani nelle banche o targhe di veicoli nei parcheggi. La risoluzione avanzata da 2 megapixel (1600 x 1200) fornisce immaggini dettagliate e cattura scene più larghe di una normale videocamera CCTV.
Questo permette di ridurre i costi di messa in opera impiegando una sola videocamera megapixel al posto di diverse con risoluzione VGA. Supporta il cosidetto tamper detection che avvisa lo staff della sicurezza qualora la videocamera venga oscurata, sfuocata, ricoperta da vernice o coperta. La funzione di time-shift dello streaming immagazzina immagini prima e dopo un evento dando all'utente una visione degli eventi prima e dopo un incidente. Lo storage on-board per registrazioni temporanee è costituito da uno slot per memorie SD/SDHC. Le funzioni avanzate prevedono il dual streaming, la conformità 802.3af PoE, audio a due vie con protocollo SIP e trasmissioni con criptazione HTTPS.
